I have just started working on the Battle of the Books Team. I am looking forward to helping out our BoB person (Maureen) as much as possible as well as working on the Score Challenge. It is interesting to work with others from other branches and even with the Media Specialists in the community. We can learn a lot from each other.
The Branch Leadership Team meetings are always interesting. We had a great time going on a "field trip" last year to the new Owings Mills Library. It was great to share this experience with the team.

Human Resources
The most beneficial area of Employee Self Service is being able to review pay history. I love looking at that! :)

Operations and Facilities
The most fascinating thing I learned about Operations is how long Scott has worked here! Wow! 30+ years is a long time. Must be a great place to work! :)

CCPL's Programming Philosophy
Why is library programming important? It is important because it acquaints people with the library, potentially increases circulation and bolsters that CCPL mission of lifelong learning. Personally, I agree with this philosophy. Get the people in with a program that they enjoy and they might stick around see what else the library has to offer. We want people to discover us!

Interlibrary Loan
I scheduled a reservation in our large meeting room and called Doris Keck to learn how to delete it. She wasn't in so I left a message. However! In her answering machine message, she said to cancel a room you could leave her a message with the room info and she would take care of it. Whenever I need to cancel a room reservation, I email her. I asked her to let me know if there is a different way of doing this.
External Relations aka Communications
I learned that I should never say "No Comment" to a reporter! :)
I also learned how to properly enter a program into the database.

I have counted 44 people, including myself, who work at WEC not including all of the folks in OUT. I have met everyone except for Loretta Murphy. I sat next to her during Staff Day and we got to know each other. She is currently an Info Sub but had worked at the system for a long time before retiring.
I attended the Leading from Any Position program this past year and I believe that was funded, at least in part, by LSTA funds. Attendees from across the state worked together to devise ways to make a difference in their individual organizations.

According to my Branch Manager, Christina Kuntz: "We do get challenges from time to time. When we receive those verbal complaints, the customer isn’t usually terribly upset or angry. They just want someone to hear that they have an issue with the material. We usually explain that the library buys materials for all tastes and interests, but we do realize that not all material is appropriate for every customer. Then we offer to try to find them something more appropriate for their family. Occasionally, a customer wishes to make a more formal complaint. When that happens, we have a form for them to fill out. At that point, the completed form goes to MATS for a written response. Most recently, we had a customer who was upset by a TV series called Hung. Both Concetta and I viewed an episode so that we would understand the complaint and be able to discuss any issues. Concetta wrote a letter explaining the same sort of points that we make with a verbal complaint. To my knowledge, we have never removed an item from the collection based on a customer challenge."
The Risk Takers Network is that video contest we have each year about some risk that a group or branch took.
